I am calling todays posting "A Little of Everything" because my house was filled with creativity today. My oldest daughter, Mallory, had a friend over today and when that happens I feel compelled to bring out the mod podge and construction paper. To my girls glue guns and sewing machines are as much a part of the decor as a coffee table and couch. So, they often roll their eyes when I start with the, "hey, does anyone want to craft?" But inevitably it is a novelty to their friends and they are eager to dig in and make something.

Mallory and her friend made cute cards! |
|
I brought out the vintage jewelry in case anyone wanted to make a hair accessory. |
|
They also made hair clips. |
While the girls were busy I wanted to try making an apron based on this one I picked up in a thrift store. I loved this apron not only because the lovely fabric, but the design is vintage and simple. Two things I love!
I started by cutting my pieces using the old apron as a pattern. It went pretty quick and within an hour I had finished it. It wasn't perfect but usually the prototype made without a pattern is more of a learning experience than a perfectly made garment.

Used my cool iphone app for this picture.
As if this weren't enough, I made some yummy pumpkin rolls with cream cheese frosting for the girls. I'll skip the pictures of them, but they sure were tasty!

I love those hair clips, they are so cute and totally something I'd wear. And the apron turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sara. I love the clips too! I bought a bunch of vintage clip on earrings, feathers, sprigs of various flowers, and let the girls have at it. My oldest is a sophomore at an all girls high school and the girls are really into hair embellishments, whether it be a simple headband or an elaborate steampunk style adornment. It's fun to see what they come up with.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the apron too! The colorful part on the front is not only decorative but it is also the pockets. I just cut it out as you see it and sewed it on the white fabric leaving openings where the hands go in , then stitched a straight line right down the center creating two roomy pockets. As I type this I am thinking that I should include such details on my blog in case someone wants to make one for themselves. I am new to blogging and am still learning!
Anyhow, thanks for being a follower and leaving comments.
